You will get to use and understand the specialized gear and techniques used for backpacking. Canoe Camping Get the plan on how to pack and execute an efficient multi-day down river self-contained canoe trip. Primitive Fire Building You will get a hands on appreciation of the primal skills of fire building. We will demonstrate and practice various methods from Bow and Spindle, Flint and Steel, and other more novel techniques. Map, Compass and GPS Learn to read and use topographical maps and compass to navigate in the wilderness using the proper techniques. Discovering the Outdoors Plants and Wildlife: Explore nature and discover the wildlife found in Southern Virginia. We will identify variety of flora and fauna including trees, edible plants, wildflowers, and animals.
